But....STRATEGY

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts (formerly known as SB Nation Fanpulse), a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send 30 polls to plugged in fans from each team. Royals fans, sign up HERE to join SBN Reacts.

The American League has used a designated hitter since 1973, but the National League has resisted thus far, making it one of the last professional leagues not to use a DH. That changed last year, as the NL adopted a designated hitter rule to keep pitchers from getting hurt in the pandemic-shortened season. While there hasn’t been an official decision on whether or not that will be the case this year, signs point to the National League employing a DH in 2021, and owners would like to make that change permanent.

In our latest SBN Reacts poll, an overwhelming 71 percent of respondents said they would like to see the DH for both leagues this year.

Almost as many would like to see the rule change permanently.

What, you don’t like seeing pitchers run the bases with their jackets on? What about strategy? Fans are unimpressed with double switches, they want the long ball.

Remember, you can sign up to participate in SBN Reacts surveys at this link! Surveys will go out each week and only take a few minutes to complete. Check back next week for more SBN Reacts results!
