The Rays have added another highly touted prospect to the system.

Previous winner

3B Kevin Padlo (R/R, 6’2 205, 24 in 2021)

2019 statistics with Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham: 432 PA, .265/.389/.538, 21 HR, 53 XBH, 12/16 SB, 15.7 BB%, 26.9 K%

Padlo broke a hamate bone in 2017, and it took him until the 2019 season to get back on track. He’s always had power potential, and he started showing it in games. His average wasn’t bad, and he posted a high walk rate. He’s a good defender at third base and has spent time at both first base and second base, which he was able to do with his athleticism. He was at points on the team’s taxi squad in 2020 but didn’t appear in any games.

Yes, another special election. It’s odd to be adding a noteworthy prospect through means other than trade at this point in the calendar, so I don’t think there’s a precedent for it in these polls. However, a special election as suggested makes sense. If he had been added in a trade, we would have that option, so why not free agency?

As a reminder, reply with the position on the list you think each player should occupy.

For Example: A comment for “2nd” indicates you are voting for him to go between Wander Franco and Randy Arozarena on the list. A comment for “11th” puts him between Taylor Walls and Brent Honeywell Jr.

Remember, you are not obligated to place the player on the list as constructed. Saying so counts as a vote. If a majority of voters don’t want him on the list, he won’t go on, and we’ll just resume voting.

If someone has already provided the position on the list you’d like to vote for, respond to that comment with a +1.

SS Carlos Colmenarez (L/R, 5’10 175, 17 in 2021)

Signed in 2021

The Rays have bolstered efforts to strengthen their pipeline through the international market in recent years, and Colmenarez is another big investment as one of the top players in the class. He has above-average tools across the board, and his performance in games stands out. He makes consistent contact and is expected to develop some power. Defensively, he has the athleticism and arm to stick at shortstop.
