Alderson: Mets To Address Lindor Extension In “Next Few Weeks”

0 7

In a press conference discussing the acquisition of Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco, team president Sandy Alderson said the team traded for Lindor with the “hope” that he would sign a long-term extension. ”

“We acquired him with the thought that he could be a Met long term,” Alderson said.

He made sure to note that the Mets have only had one conversation with the new shortstop so far (presumably to welcome him to the team) and none with his agent.

“There’s every reason to talk about some sort of long-term relationship.”

Alderson said that they will address a contract extension with Lindor and his agent within the “next couple weeks” and that they made the trade comfortable with the fact Lindor only has one year of team control left.

This could be one of a couple extensions the Mets sign this year, with Michael Conforto highlighting a group of current players the Mets should extend.

The 27-year-old Lindor is in his final year of arbitration before hitting free agency. He is set to make around $19.5 million in 2021 if he plays the season out before signing a new deal.
