Mets Haven’t Talked Contract Extension With Michael Conforto Yet

0 9

Sandy Alderson said he hasn’t approached Michael Conforto and his agent (Scott Boras) about a contract extension yet. He noted, though, that he will “take the temperature” of Conforto and Boras with regards to a new contract at some point over this offseason. Conforto is currently set to be a free agent after the 2021 season.

Following setting up the front office and signing free agents, giving the home-grown Conforto a contract extension should be a priority this offseason. Though Scott Boras clients often hit the open market in free agency rather than sign extensions beforehand, Conforto has noted that the decision is completely up to him whether he wants to sign an extension before he hits free agency. He told the New York Post back in 2019, “I take [Boras’s] advice with a lot of weight, but obviously at the end of the day it’s my call.”

The 27-year-old has compiled 118 home runs, a .859 OPS, 128 wRC+, and 14.4 bWAR in 632 games since his debut in 2015. His 14.4 bWAR ranks 6th all-time among Mets outfielders.

Conforto is projected to make $11 million heading into his final arbitration year, according to Spotrac.
