[Women's Basketball] Falcons Fall at Southwestern Christian
BETHANY, Okla. -- The Southwestern Christian University Eagles used a big second quarter to take control and went on to win 86-52 Saturday afternoon over the Friends University Falcons in Bethany, Okla.
Kira Ward (SR/Hartford, SD) made a basket in the paint to give the Falcons an 11-9 lead, but the Eagles scored the next five to give them a lead they would never relinquish. The Falcons trailed 16-13 after the first quarter.
The Eagles offense came alive in the second quarter, knocking down four three-pointers, including three by Kea Mays. Khadijah Miller (SR/Arlington, Texas) scored five of the Falcons eight second-quarter points, as the Eagles took a 39-21 lead into the break.
The Falcons began the third frame with two straight buckets, but Mays buried a three to stop the run. The Eagles would grow the lead from there with an 18-4 spurt.
Southwestern Christian continued their offensive success, scoring 27 points in the fourth quarter to give them the victory.
Miller led the Falcons with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including 1-of-2 from distance. Maddie Jessepe (SR/Ada, Okla. ) finished with 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Falcons.
Thamires Andrade recorded a game-high 26 points to lead four Eagles in double-figure scoring. Mays connected on 5-of-9 from three-point range to finish with 15 points.
The Falcons defense turned over the Eagles 24 times, including 12 steals.
Southwestern Christian shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) overall from the field, with a 46.2 (12-of-26) percent clip from the perimeter.
The Falcons return to the Garvey Center for a KCAC matchup with Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
