[Women's Cross Country] Bearcats Finish Ninth at RSC Championship

The Brescia University women's cross country team placed ninth at the River States Conference XC Championship, hosted by the University of Rio Grande. The women's ninth place finish was an improvement on last season's 10th place finish.

"The women ran well. A few injuries left us without a couple of our top athletes, but we still responded well and improved from last year," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel

Sophia Warthen (FR, Elizabethtown, Ky.) led the Bearcats, finishing 22nd with a 5k time of 22:21 on the challenging course. Abagale Huelsman (SO, Fort Branch, Ind.) crossed the line next, finishing the race in 30th place and running 22:57.

Sheyenna Stytz (FR, Ledbetter, Ky.), McKenzie Severs (SO, Hawesville, Ky.), and Raegan Halley (SO, McLeansboro, Ill.) ran as a pack throughout the race and finished in places 59, 60, and 61, rounding out the day for the team.

The conference race marked Raegan Halley's final cross country race, as she will be graduating from Brescia after the Spring semester with her associates degree, prior to beginning engineering school.

"Raegan has meant a lot to the rebuilding phase of our program. I'm looking forward to seeing how much she can improve heading into her final track season," said Stoffel.

The Bearcats will take a short break and then begin preparing for track season.
