Dayton Moore Isn’t Going Anywhere

Heading into the 2020 season, Royals general manager Dayton Moore was in the final year of his contract. After a poor 2020 season for the Royals, some fans and Royals’ websites think Moore could be on his way out.  This isn’t the case at all. As a matter of fact, when John Sherman’s group was working on a deal to purchase the Royals, MLB Network’s insider John Heyman reported that the new ownership group was planning on giving Dayton Moore a long-term contract extension.  I am totally on board with a Dayton Moore contract extension for many reasons. The first one is pretty obvious. He led the Royals to two World Series, and won one. This proves he knows what pieces to add to form a championship roster. The second reason is probably the biggest of the two. When Dayton Moore stepped in as the Royals general manager in 2006, he had to clean house by firing coaches and cutting players that didn’t fit into the Royals future. The next great move Dayton Moore did was trade Zack Greinke to the Milwaukee Brewers. Back in those days, I’m guessing many fans were wondering why the Royals would trade an ace like Greinke. The reason is simple: Greinke was tired of losing and wanted out of Kansas City, and the Royals couldn’t afford to keep him long-term. The Greinke trade worked out for the Royals very well. The players the Royals got in return for Greinke were unbelievable. Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain played huge roles during the Royals’ run to a World Series title. The Greinke trade is just one example of Dayton Moore’s incredible trade history. Now, after the World Series win in 2015, Royals fans hated to see the championship core split. The Royals and Royals fans were hoping to get Eric Hosmer to sign a long-term contract with KC. Looking back, it was smart to let him walk.  Now, on to the present day Royals. Despite having multiple down years lately, I still believe Dayton Moore is the right man for the job. Mr. Moore has shown time and time again that he knows how to draft well. The Royals future looks extremely bright with Brady Singer, Kris Bubic, and others that made their mark during the 2020 season. It is important to remember that before the Royals started to struggle, Dayton Moore told fans that it would take a couple of years to rebuild a team that is competitive. I am hoping Dayton Moore will be part of the Royals organization for years to come and builds multiple championship caliber teams.
