La Salle baseball advances to Class A title game over Ichabod Crane
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- La Salle baseball held off Ichabod Crane 4-3 Monday night, punching its ticket to the Section II, Class A championship game.
The Cadets' offense found a rhythm thanks to Will Kelly who singled, JJ Hunter who hit into a fielder's choice, and Dan McCue hitting a single, earning La Salle a 3-0 lead. They added another run in the fourth inning to make it four.
Ichabod Crane got on the board in the fourth, but some sparks started to fly in the sixth. With runners on base, the Cadets' defense tried to pick off a runner at second but misfired into center field. A run scored bringing the Riders within two.
Brady Holzhauer singled to center allowing a run to score, cutting La Salle's lead to one. Despite that Ray Contessa delivered a game-ending strikeout to seal the win.
La Salle will face Albany Academy in a battle of the Cadets in the Class A section championship game on Wednesday, May 22 at, 7:00 pm.
