[Men's Basketball] Hawks Spirited Comeback Against Jessup Comes Up Just Short

0 10

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The San Diego Christian Hawks esprit de corps was on full display Thursday evening at William Jessup's home court. Although a late comeback attempt fell just short for an 80-87 loss, the San Diego Christian men's basketball team had a strong vocal contingent in Coach Shawn Chaffin's women's squad.

Although the first half featured a consistent back-and-forth with a total of 11 lead changes, the Jessup Warriors were able to close out with an offensive burst that gave them a 9-point advantage at the break.

Through the first 14 minutes of the second half, the two teams continued with a nearly point-for-point exchange, allowing Jessup to maintain and slightly extend their lead to 12 points.

Bolstered by the cheers of the Hawk women's team, San Diego Christian's, Teyden Gause, drained a three-pointer to begin the comeback. As the crowd cheered, Jonathan Chapotin and Jared Nyivih each made layups for a 7-0 scoring run cutting the lead to just 5 points.

Another repeated exchange of buckets kept the Warriors lead to 7 points when with just 1:30 left in the game, back-to-back layups by Bryce Parsons and Teyden Gause cut the Jessup lead to only 3 points.

Unfortunately, that was a close as the Hawks would get. Jessup closed out the game with a 7-3 run to clinch the win.

Coach Cosby had this to say about the support shown by the women's squad, "Shout out to Coach Chaffin and our women's basketball team. It felt like a home game for us! We are very blessed to have such comradery. Their support was authentic and gave us the energy we needed to compete. It truly touches my heart."

The Hawks continue their NoCal road trip Saturday, February 22, in Atherton, CA against the Menlo College Oaks.
