[Baseball] Blanset's Walk-off Homer gives SDC Split against ACU
SAN DIEGO – David Blanset saved the Hawks from going 0-4 to start off conference play with a walk-off 3-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give SDC a split against ACU on Saturday.
The Hawks dropped Game 1 10-2 before Blanset's walk-off gave SDC the 8-7 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, SDC broke a 20-inning scoreless streak with a run in the fifth inning. Johnny Radomskiy singled home Dawson Pate but the Hawks trailed 3-1 after five innings. ACU tallied seven runs in the next two innings to extend their lead to 10-1. Tanner Mayberry singled home Radomskiy in the bottom of the seventh but the Hawks dropped the opener.
Radomskiy went 3-4 with a run and RBI. Leo Soto was tabbed with the loss going six innings allowing four earned runs and a strikeout.
The bats finally started to get going for the Hawks in the second game. Josh LaMonte singled home Tyler Schindel in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 lead. Radomskiy kept his hot streak going with a 2 RBI double to left-center scoring Caiden Ragadio and Pate.
In the second, Ryan Culp added to the Hawks lead with an RBI triple scoring Aidan Rodriguez.
Leading 4-0 after two, the Firestorm made their comeback and took the lead in the fifth inning after scoring three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
Trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh, the Firestorm got two quick outs before the fireworks began. LaMonte worked a walk to give SDC a baserunner and bring the tying runner to the plate.
Radomskiy came to the stage needing a homer to keep the game going. With a 1-0 count, Radomskiy crushed an inside fastball over the fence, but it was about 20 feet left of the foul pole down the left-field line. He also later drew a walk to bring up Blanset for his heroics.
Facing a 1-2 count, Blanset deposited the ball over the left-field fence giving SDC the win and the split.
Radomskiy had another two hits in the game. Blanset led with 4 RBI.
SDC is on the road next weekend as they travel to Westmont.
