Lucas Giolito dazzles in his first career complete game in a 4-1 abridged Sox win
The Sox return the favor and bring a rainstorm of their own
Lucas Giolito picked up where he left off on Mother’s Day. With a game cut short due to rain, Giolito picks up his first career complete game as the Sox pick up win No. 21. Gio went five full innings, allowed three hits, gave up one run, and struck out four.
His teammates backed him up right out of the gate. Leury García led the offense off with a leadoff home run off of Ryan Feierabend.

In the second inning, Toronto evened the score with an RBI groundout by Brandon Drury that scored Rowdy Tellez, who reached base on a check-swing base hit to the vacant right side of the infield.
The South Siders didn’t like the even score, so they came back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own. Yoán Mocada started the inning with a double, and Yonder Alonso brought him home with an RBI single to right field. A passed ball and Charlie Tilson RBI single up the middle later, the Boys in Black led 3-1.

Not content with a two-run margin, the Sox tacked on another run in the third inning. Tim Anderson rivaled Tellez’s check swing base hit with one of his own to right field.

José Abreu followed suit with his own bloop single to left field. Then, today’s unlikely hero drove in Anderson with an RBI single to increase the lead to 4-1. Feierabend was welcomed back rather rudely from the Sox, but that’s baseball.

With four runs scored, the Sox increased their odds to an afternoon win:
That's 4 runs for the #WhiteSox so far today. They are 19-5 when scoring at least 4 this season.

The Sox are now 20-5 when scoring at least four runs. This team has the talent to contend for a playoff spot.
Lucas Giolito contined to pitch well, as he pitched out of a fourth inning jam. He gave up back-to-back walks after Justin Smoak grounded out. After a visit to the mound and a moment to collect himself, Giolito induced two straight pop outs to escape the inning.
During the bottom of the fourth inning, García added to his MLB leading stat:
7th time reaching on error for Leury García this season. Leads MLB.

With the rain pounding and a rain delay on the horizon, Giolito came out in the fifth inning with one goal: induce three quick outs. He struck out the side.

Then, the rain delay came, but not before the game was official.

Finally, after three hours, the game was called!
Due to the threat of rain throughout the night and the condition of the field, today's ballgame has been called and is final.

Meaning this ballgame is.... Ovah! #SoxWin
Final: #WhiteSox 4, #BlueJays 1. pic.twitter.com/bNODIepwOb
Giolito steals his first home win and improves his record to 5-1, but Feierabend loses in his first major league appearance since 2014. The Sox improve to 21-23, and Yonder Alonso found his bat in a new spot in the order.
Catch the White Sox back in action for tomorrow’s 1:10 CT start. Reynaldo López (3-4, 5.58 ERA) looks to take the third and final win available for the series. He will face off against Trent Thornton (1-4, 4.81 ERA).
WGN will be back to broadcasting the game, and they will have it by radio as well.
Here’s to Giolito’s first career (five innings) complete game! And a White Sox victory!
