[Softball] Viking Softball Takes Down Central Methodist 5-1 in Conference Tournament
Cedar Rapids, IA – Grand View softball advances to day three of the Heart of America Conference Championship after their 5-1 victory over the Central Methodist University Eagles.
The Vikings will face top-seeded Baker University tomorrow, May 3, at 12 p.m. noon.

Grand View brought in the first run of. Abby Sutten (FR/Altoona, IA) reached on a drop third strike and was advanced by Alyx Witt (FR/Norwalk, IA)'s single. Lauren Poortinga (SR/Des Moines, IA) dropped a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. Jillian Belieu (SR/West Des Moines, IA) hit a sac fly out to right field to bring in Sutten.
An RBI single to right field from Lexi Merritt (JR/Waukee, IA) followed by a three-run home run from Conference Freshman of the Year, Witt, in the bottom of the fifth extended the Vikings lead 5-0.
The Eagles brought in their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth.
Meaghan Grah (JR/Boronia, Australia) started on the mound for the Vikings, throwing six complete innings allowing five hits and one run. Libby Yenger (SR/Indianola, IA) pitched the final inning of the game, facing four batters. She struck out two and allowed one hit. Offensively, the Vikings were led by Witt with two hits and three RBI.
