Matz Bounces Back With Dominant Start Against Phillies

0 3

The last time Steven Matz pitched against the Phillies, eight batters stepped in to the batters’ box against him — All eight of those batters scored. One start later, Matz was looking to not only right the ship, but help the Mets beat the division rival Phillies.

All in all, Matz went six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out six. He ended up throwing 99 pitches, 64 of which were strikes. That run came off a Rhys Hoskins solo home run, but besides that swing, Matz was pretty much mistake-free.

Matz talked about his bounce back effort:

If you disregard his disaster of a start against the Phillies last week, in four starts, Matz has pitched very well. In 22.1 innings he has a 1.63 ERA, 25 strikeouts, seven walks, and has allowed 15 hits — good for a 0.985 WHIP.

Mickey Callaway touched on the outing from Matz:

The young lefty is currently lined up to pitch against Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday the 28th at Citi Field.
