Carlos Rodón makes his spring debut for the Chicago White Sox. On Friday, Scott Merkin tweeted out some calendar math, saying that Rodón’s start on March 2 lines up to make him the Opening Day starter when the games get real.

Today’s starting lineup:

  1. RF Jon Jay
  2. 3B Yoan Moncada
  3. DH José Abreu
  4. 1B Nicky Delmonico
  5. C James McCann
  6. SS Tim Anderson
  7. 2B Yolmer Sánchez
  8. CF Ryan Cordell
  9. LF Luis Gonzalez

While none of the White Sox Sox’ top few prospects are in the starting lineup, quite a few players at or near the top of the depth chart are. With Adam Engel out of the starting lineup, Ryan Cordell will start there. The writing is more or less on the wall for him regarding his chances to be a long-term piece of the future. But, given how thin the outfield is projected to be, might as well give him some opportunities this spring.

As for the starting rotation, a lot can happen between now and Opening Day, but there’s not really a better candidate to get the ball on Opening Day. That does, however, mean you may see another southpaw, Manny Bañuelos, not only make the rotation, but perhaps the No. 4 ahead of Lucas Giolito, to prevent back-to-back lefties.

Rodón faces Colorado Rockies righty Antonio Senzatela, making his second start.

The White Sox look to pick up where they left off yesterday, as Luis Robert’s three-run homer with two outs in the 9th fueled a late rally in an 8-5 victory.
