[Women's Indoor Track & Field] Women's Track Sets Ten Indoor School Records

0 67

The Brescia women's track & field team had a record-breaking season- taking down ten indoor track school records.

Head Coach Luke Stoffel said, "[The broken records] show steady improvement on both sides and that we're covering more events, as opposed to to just having cross country athletes run track (like it was in the past)."

The season of record smashing began on January 25th at Rose-Hulman University, where Rachel Frey (FR, Vincennes, Ind.) set the record for the newly established pole vault event at Brescia, vaulting a distance of 2.82m. Next, Mallory Toler (FR, Rockport, Ind.) sprinted the 200m dash in a time of 29.67.

In the following meet at Indiana Wesleyan, Kassi Gilbert (JR, Lebanon Junction, Ky.) jumped past her own school records in long jump and triple jump, setting a record of 4.7m and 9.78m, respectively.

At Indiana Wesleyan, Toler sprinted past the previous 60m dash record by running 8.68 seconds.

At the next meet, the River States Conference Championship, three Lady Bearcats took down school records. First, Breanna Chester (SO, Henderson, Ky.) broke her own record in the 400m, running a 1:10.12. Next, Autumn Tonkins (JR, Evansville, Ind.) established the Brescia record in the 600m run with a time of 2:12.29.

Mikayla Chinn (SO, Newburgh, Ind.) had the final record of the meet, throwing a distance of 7.83m in the weight throw.

In the final meet of the season at Anderson University, the 4x200m relay team of Toler, Gilbert, Chester, and Frey set the relay record at 1:55.44. Chinn concluded the indoor season for the Lady Bearcats by smashing her own shot put recording, throwing a distance of 11.56m.

Brescia Athletic Director Brian Skortz said, "Over the last couple of years [our] focus has been on getting track athletes [in addition to cross country]." Skortz continued to say, "I'm excited to see the records fall. It's a sign of progress."
