[Baseball] Cavs fall to Golden Bears in extra inning series opener
MARION, N.C. – The Cavaliers stranded 19 runners in a series opening extra innings loss to West Virginia Tech on Friday night at Big League Camp. Montreat pushed the game to 10 frames but ultimately fell 7-6 to drop to 3-2 on the season
Starting pitcher Braden Daniels retired four batters in four innings while giving up three hits in his outing. Charles Revier was dirty on the mound, fanning two batters in his 1.1 innings of work between James Crowder and closing pitcher Will Price who each had a pair of strikeouts as well.
Bo Fricks was the only Cav with a multi-hit game, knocking a double to center in the second inning and sending the tying run across the plate in the eighth on a single to short.
Alexander Soto and Dylan Haskell each knocked in a run on the night while Joseph Locascio, Caleb Henderson, Fenway Parks, and Noah Medina rounded out the Cavs who each had a hit.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Cavs had a chance to end the game with bases loaded and no outs, but they were not able to push across a run. Tech went ahead on a sac fly in the top of the 10th and the Cavs weren't able to answer.
"Not many teams can win when leaving 19 men on base. We need to learn to execute with runners in scoring position to make the game easier," said Coach Beck. "Everyone is pressing a little and we just haven't come up with the big hit yet. This team is too good for this to happen much longer. We are due to come around, and when we do, the runs will be there."
