[Men's Basketball] High Powered Offense Leads Men's Basketball over Huntington

0 5

MARION, Ind. – Sophomores Kyle Mangas and Grant Smith combined for 69 points as No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball defeated Huntington (Ind.) 104-98 inside Luckey Arena. The Indiana Wesleyan win combined with the Spring Arbor (Mich.) loss to Bethel (Ind.), the Wildcats have pulled into a first place tie atop the Crossroads League standings with just two games to play.

MANGAS HITTING BUCKETS

Kyle Mangas poured in 16 first half points but exploded early in the second half with 20 points in the first 10 minutes. He had 36 points midway through the second half but picked up his fourth foul with 9:16 left in the game to send him to the bench. He scored two points the rest of the way to finish with 38 for the game.

SMITH’S CAREER HIGH

Grant Smith set a new career-high with 31 points, besting his pervious mark of 21 points. He was 17-of-19 from the free throw line and just missed the program record of 18 free throws made in a game which was set by Perry Frank in 1984. In two games this season, Smith averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists vs. Huntington.

SENIOR DAY

In a pregame festivity, Indiana Wesleyan honored three seniors for Senior Day. Recognized were Evan Maxwell, Joel Okafor, and Trevor Waite.

TONAGEL THOUGHTS

“Our offense delivered today with a very efficient effort. Grant Smith played downhill today and got to the free throw line 19 times. Kyle and Grant both scored 30 points today and I am sure that is the only time that has happened at Indiana Wesleyan. They are two great weapons.”

NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS

Luckey Arena hosts a huge game on Tuesday with many major implications as No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan hosts No. 3 Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The top-5 showdown will be a WHITE OUT in Luckey Arena.
