[Women's Indoor Track & Field] Lucas, Thomsen Pace Tiger Women's Track and Field
Doane Women's Track and Field opened the season on Saturday afternoon with the Happy Holidays Multi-Events at Doane. Six Tigers athletes competed in the pentathlon with all of them meeting the NAIA minimum standard of 2,950 points to qualify for nationals. The Top 16 in the NAIA will advance to nationals in Brookings, S.D.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Paige Lucas (JR/Ravenna, Neb.) with an individual championship mark of 3,352 points. Her point total ranks 2nd in the NAIA this season. She posted a NAIA "A" standard qualifying mark in the high jump with a mark of 1.66m (5-05.25), best in the NAIA in the early stages of the season. She also posted the top mark on the day in the shot put with a throw of 11.25m (36-11.00).
Maitlyn Thomsen (SR/Beaver Crossing, Neb.) was close on the heals of Lucas, finishing second with 3,294 points which ranks 4th in the NAIA this season. She posted a NAIA "B" standard qualifying mark in the high jump with a height of 1.63m (5-04.25).
Taking third in the meet for the Tigers was Kayla Bachle (JR/Grand Island, Neb.) with 3,128 points. She posted the second best mark in the long jump on the day with a leap of 5.07m (16-07.75).
Ashley Cook (JR/Waverly, Neb.) placed 8th in the meet with 2,999 points. Madison Blackstone (FR/Superior, Neb.) took 9th with 2,989 points. In the high jump, Blackstone met the NAIA "B" standard mark with a height of 1.63m (5-04.25). Amanda Cook (JR/Waverly, Neb.) placed 10th with 2,961 points.
The annual meet featured competitors from Doane, Central Missouri, and Central (Iowa).
