[Football] Whitaker Receives Second KCAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor
WICHITA, Kan. – For the second time this season, Friends University senior standout quarterback Brennan Whitaker has been named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today (Nov. 5).
"What a great honor for Brennan and our team," Friends head coach Dion Meneley said.
"Our offense has been progressing throughout the season, and Brennan's leadership is a key component to that success. He is making good decisions, protecting the ball, and pushing the ball downfield to our skill players who are making great plays after the catch. I couldn't be more proud of Brennan and the rest of our offense for the way they have been playing in recent weeks."
Whitaker finished the home portion of his career with one of his best games, throwing for 331 yards and four touchdowns in the Falcons' 38-20 victory over Bethel College on Senior Day last Saturday (Nov. 5).
After Bethel had cut a 21-0 halftime lead down to one possession, Whitaker hit Datryan Evans with a clutch 49 yard completion on third and five that led to a one-yard touchdown run by Quincy Brown and pushed the Falcon lead back to 28-14.
Despite missing three games with an injury, Whitaker ranks fifth in the KCAC in total passing yards (1909) and fourth in touchdown passes (19).
A native of Iowa Park, Texas, Whitaker earned his first Player of the Week nod this season following career-best outputs of 386 passing yards and five touchdown passes that sparked a 48-34 victory over Bethany College (Oct. 6) on Homecoming in front of a national ESPN3 audience.
Whitaker and the Falcons will wrap up the 2018 season at No. 21-ranked Ottawa University this Saturday (Nov. 1) at 1 pm in Ottawa, Kan.
