[Football] Mechanics Stay Undefeated with Homecoming Win

Hard fought 19-12 victory over the Delaware Gamecocks keeps their record unblemished

After losing the past two Homecoming games to the Delaware Gamecocks, Williamson's football team had a measure of revenge on their minds on Saturday.  However, because of those two straight losses to the Gamecocks, they knew a win would not be easy.  Despite that, Williamson used some timely offense and tough defense when it mattered the most, to come away with a 19-12 Homecoming win.

Williamson started the game off with a bang, as they moved 50 yards in 5 plays after a 25-yard kick-off return by David Williams (JR/Philadelphia, PA), to go up 6-0.  That drive was capped by a 1-yard TD run by Dwayne Parent (SR/Brookhaven, PA).

After the team exchanged possessions, the Gamecocks took advantage of a short Williamson punt from their own 13-yard line.  They went 42 yards in four plays that ended in a 2-yard touchdown run by Donald Wilson.  Like Williamson though, their extra point attempt failed and the teams were tied at 6-6.

After neither team scored for the rest of the half, Williamson was able to get the lone score of the third quarter on a nifty 10-yard run by junior running back David Williams. They again missed the extra point to keep it at 12-6.

Williamson increased their lead on a 10 play, 65-yard drive, with Giuseppe Pollino grabbing a 6-yard TD pass from Vince DelPercio (SR/Middletown, DE) in the back of the end zone.  Gino DiCamillo (SR/Broomall. PA) added the extra point to put Williamson up 19-6 at the 10:11 mark.

That score stood all if 19 seconds, as after a 40-yard kick-off return, Keontae Johnson scampered 52- yards to pay dirt to pull to within 19-12.  The 2-point conversion and failed to keep it at 19-12.

Williamson's defense then took over.  The Gamecocks would get the ball back two more times but were unable to get anything going, as Williamson's defense came up big on several occasions.  Quincey Williams had a key sack on their first possession, while Mark Moriarty (FR/Glen Mills, PA)'s sack with 30 seconds left iced the game for the Mechanics and kept them undefeated.

Offensively, David Williams continued his impressive streak as he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, while DeJuan Outlaw (SR/Elkton, MD) added another 55 yards on the ground.  As a team, Williamson rushed for 243 yards.

Defensively, while Williamson allowed 229 yards to the Gamecocks, that figure is a bit deceiving, as 108 of those yards came on a 52-yard run and a 56-yard pass.  Those yards aside, Williamson's defense held them in check most of the day.  Devonte Whittley (SR/Baltimore, MD) led the team with nine tackles, a sack and a hurry.  Gino DiCamillo added eight tackles, while Chris Catalano (SR/Havertown, PA) added six tackles and two hurries.

Williamson next takes on powerhouse Valley Forge Military College in a noon home start on Saturday, October 20.
