Cardinal color: “Jedi” Lowrie wearing Stanford cleats for A’s this weekend

MINNEAPOLIS - The three-day Players’ Weekend might wind up creating some all-in-good-fun rivalry in the A’s clubhouse.

Oakland second baseman Jed Lowrie, who earlier this season was warned by Major League Baseball about wearing non-standard footwear, went all out with his shoes for the next three games. He will be wearing custom-designed, bright red cleats with the Stanford logo and, in a particularly nice touch, The Axe on the toes.

Lowrie, who played at Stanford from 2003-05, said he ordered the cleats from New Balance two months ago and he’s been looking forward to unveiling them.
