On Day 3 of Major League Baseball draft, A’s picks have local flavor
The A’s stayed close to home — and the heart — with their selections Wednesday, the third and final day of the Major League Baseball draft.
In the 11th round — the first of the day — Oakland selected right-handed pitcher Joe DeMers, who threw perfect games in high school (College Park-Pleasant Hill) and college (Washington).
Near the end of the draft, the A’s selected St. Mary’s infielder Austin Piscotty in the 38th round. He’s the younger brother of the A’s Stephen Piscotty, whom Oakland acquired from St. Louis in December, in part so Piscotty could be close to his and Austin’s mom, Gretchen, at the family’s home in Pleasanton.
