Gamethread: Brewers at White Sox

NL Central leaders coming in, Danny Farquhar coming back

The White Sox are taking on the Brewers to kick off the month of June. They’ll send Hector Santiago into battle against the team with the best record in the National League (36-21) and a four-game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central.

Yeah, great. On to the real story. DANNY FARQUHAR IS BACK!

Six weeks after suffering a life-threatening brain hemorrhage, the right-handed reliever will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game. Sox fans and people all around baseball spent the end of April holding their breath, not knowing whether Farquhar would survive after collapsing in the dugout on April 20. His recovery has been miraculous, and he should be able to pitch again, although probably not this year.

If you haven’t seen this morning’s GMA segment on Farquhar, check it out. (Thanks to ruffster for posting it in the comments.)

One more thing: if you still want to get tickets to any game against the Brewers this weekend, you can buy through whitesox.com/danny and a portion of ticket sales will go to the Joe Niekro Foundation for brain aneurysm research, treatment, and education.
