[Men's Volleyball] Vikings Clinch Conference Tournament Title in Three

Des Moines, Iowa – Grand View posted a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 28-26) win over Missouri Valley in the championship game of the 2018 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Tournament Saturday afternoon in the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center.

With the victory, Grand View remains undefeated in the conference (10-0) this season and earned an automatic berth into the 2018 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Invitational Tournament, April 17-21 at Grand View University.

Set One: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 20

The two teams competed in a close first match until a kill by John Chamone (SO/Miami Beach, FL) broke an eight-all tie sparked Grand View to stretch the lead. Grand View held a seven-point lead later in the game at 19-12 and finished the game with a five-point victory. GV recorded 11 team kills for a .200 hitting percentage while MVC finished with nine team kills with a .125 hitting percentage.

Set Two: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 19

Grand View held a 9-6 lead early in the game when Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba) served back-to-back aces to stretch the lead to 11-6. Grand View's biggest lead was at 22-14 which led them to finish the game with a 25-19 victory in set two. Grand View recorded 13 team kills with a .385 hitting percentage and Missouri Valley recorded ten kills with a .238 hitting percentage.

Set Three: Grand View University 26 | Missouri Valley College 26

Set three came down to the wire going into extra points. There were nine lead changes and 13 different ties in the set. Earlier in the game, Grand View came back from a two-point deficit at 9-11 and went on a five-point streak to lead 14-11. Later in the game, Missouri Valley was leading 23-19 but Grand View came back to take a 24-23 lead. With one point away from finishing the game, Missouri Valley came back to tie it at 24, then again at 25, and 26. GV took the 27-26 lead and Tim Johnson finished the match with a kill on an overpass by MVC. GV recorded 12 team kills edging MCV with only 11 team kills.
