[Baseball] Vikings split at home against Missouri Valley

Des Moines, IA. – The Grand View Vikings took on the Missouri Valley Vikings at home on Saturday, winning the first game and losing the second in extra innings. 

Game One | Grand View - 3, Missouri Valley - 2 |

The first game was tied at two until the bottom of the fifth inning when Grand View drew a walk with the bases loaded. 

Parker Thode (SO/Ottumwa, IA) started on the mound for and received the win for Grand View after lasting six innings.  He gave up two earned runs on five hits while striking out four batters.  Austin Marchant (SR/Indianola, IA) earned the save after striking out two through one inning. 

Jordan Daane (SR/Waupun, WI) led at the plate for the Vikings going 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a run batted in.  Damon Nuss (SR/Sumner, IA) went 1-for-3 with a double and Jimmy Anderson (JR/Eau Claire, WI) went 1-for-3 with a run batted in. 

Game Two | Grand View - 3, Missouri Valley - 7 |

In game two, Grand View lost after giving up five runs in the top of the tenth inning.  The Vikings got out-hit 9-to-6 and committed four errors on defense.    

Hunter McIntosh (JR/Mitchellville, IA) got the start going a strong six and two-thirds innings, giving up two earned runs on just four hits while striking out seven runs.  Marchant, Nick Johnson (SO/Clive, IA), and Bailey Scott (SR/Norwalk, IA) all came in relief for the Vikings.  Marchant pitched two and one-third innings giving up just one hit and striking out five. 

Nuss led at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs.  Jack Haller (SR/Urbandale, IA) went 1-for-2. 

Next Up:  The Vikings will next play on Tuesday at 1 pm at home for a doubleheader at Benedictine.
