[Softball] Softball Struggles in First Conference Games of the Season

BATESVILLE, AR- The Hornets struggled in their first games of the 2018 season as they dropped a doubleheader to Lyon College 9-0 and 12-0.

GAME ONE: HARRIS-STOWE (0) LYON (9)

After keeping the Scots to just two runs in the first inning, the offense of Lyon was hard to stop. They plated 7 runs on 7 hits in the bottom of the second inning.

Harris-Stowe would hold Lyon scoreless for the final two innings of play, but could not get their offense to kick-start against the Scots defense.

Cassidy Williams (JR/Olive Branch, MS) had the team's lone hit of the game in the top of the 5th with a single to right field.

Sophia Chamberlain (JR/Bakersfield, CA) got the start for game one and pitched 4.0 innings and striking out 4.

GAME TWO: HARRIS-STOWE (0) LYON (12)

Things looked up for the Hornets in the top of the first in game two; Mallory Pappert (SR/Affton, MO) singled to short to give HSSU their first hit of the game. But, it would be there only hit for the afternoon.

Rachel Norman hit a homerun in the top of the first to give the Scots a 1-0 lead. They would score two more in the bottom of the 2nd and another nine runs in the bottom of the third to take their 12-0 lead, and eventual win.

Courtney Norris (SR/St. Louis, Missouri) got the start for game two going 2.2 innings and striking out one. Chamberlain finished out the rest of the game and giving up only 1 hit.

With both losses, Harris-Stowe moves to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in AMC play. They will be back in action next week when they face Fontbonne University.
