Clarification: WWI-Baseball Game story
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — In a story Sept. 27, The Associated Press reported that future baseball Hall of Famers who were serving in the military participated in a World War I baseball game between the Army and the Navy. The story should have made clear that one of the men, Oscar Charleston, played in the Negro Leagues.
A clarified version of the story is below:
Sailors and soldiers will don flannel uniforms and play baseball by century-old rules to recreate the U.S. Army versus Navy games from World War I.
The U.S. Naval War College will recognize the centennial of America's involvement in the war by planning Friday's game in Newport, Rhode Island.
