[Men's Soccer] Reinhardt Rallies past Knights Soccer

0

LAURINBURG, N.C. - The St. Andrews University men's soccer team unfortunately saw their second half lead evaporate as they fell 4-2 at home to AAC rival Reinhardt University (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon.

SAU senior defender Matias Kronik (JR/Buenos Aires, Argentina) got the Knights on the board first with his goal in the 26th minute off an assist from freshman Adams Canales (SO/Beaulaville, NC). The Knights would take that 1-0 lead into the break. The goal was Kronik's first and Canales' second assist.

However, Reinhardt then got on the board in the 48th minute before SAU retook the lead off a Guilherme Soares (SR/Rio de Janiero, Brazil) corner kick that freshman Arthur Quiroz (FR/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) punched in for his first career goal in the 58th minute. Soares' assist was his 2nd of the year.

Ten minutes later, Reinhardt began their spurt of three goals in in three minutes as they used their brother combination of Gus and Todd Fidler to go up 4-2 on the Knights and put the game away.

SAU won the shot count in the second half 7-6 led by one shot each from nine different players while getting one shots on goal from midfielder Ricardo Da Silva (SR/Piracicaba, Brazil), Canales, freshman Jeovany Gonzalez (FR/Sterling Park, VA), Kronik, and Quiroz.

Sophomore goalkeeper Valentino Parini (SO/Milan, Italy) made two saves on six shots on goal while the shot count was tied at nine apiece. Parini is now averaging 3.7 saves/game (2nd in AAC) with 22 saves to rank 5th in the AAC.

St. Andrews falls to 2-4 and 0-2 in the AAC while Reinhardt improves to 4-3-2 and 3-0 in conference.

St. Andrews will continue to remain home to host Point University (Ga.) (6-2-1) next Sunday at 3:30 PM.
