An Abundance of Short Stops/ MLB Draft 2018

0

Where to start ?

Let's look at the White Sox top rated farm system. What is missing ? In the top 30, not a single Short Stop. Well, here is how that could be. All the good ones are drafted out of high school. The White Sox don't draft high school players. Only one in each of the last two drafts in their top ten picks.

To quote myself

Sept 8

If you want a shortstop, you have to draft him out of high school.

BA said exactly that in a recent podcast. They don’t get to college. The White Sox system is full of Shortstops that were drafted from college, and therefore inferior. The good news is next years draft is loaded with quality high school shortstops. When Theo Epstien was asked why he kept drafting SS’s, he said "They are the most talented players on the field." He’d be happy to put eight of them in the game at once.
Note to Nick H,
Enough with the lumbering college hitters. Please draft a few(several) premium athletic talents.

Jim Callis told Garfien last week, our system is weak up the middle. That's right, no short stops.

They don't grow on trees. In 2016, only two players in the draft, looked to stay at the position. Gavi Lux #20,and Delvin Perez #23. Others such as Carter Kieboom , Bo Bicette although called SS, would have to move off of Short.

The good news is next years draft is jam packed with high school Short Stops.

First, let's look at the college short stop prospects.

......................................... .... .....

Oh, that's right, they all get drafted out of high school. There are "0" college short stops.

The high school class is so deep, if Lux and Perez were in this class, they would be middle of the pack.

I count 15 in all. That does not include players who may be better suited elsewhere, such as Max Marusak, Brandon Howlett, Owen White, Devin Warner, J T Ginn, Jimmy Glowenke, and Sean Guible.

I believe a lot will be written about this deep class. Just remember who told you first.
