[Men's Golf] ONU jumps three spots to seventh-place on day two at Battle at Blackthorn

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—Saturday's round at the Battle at Blackthorn helped the Olivet Nazarene University men's golf team move three spots to seventh overall, where the Tigers would place. ONU sat at 10th out of 12 spots after 18 holes, but after shooting 10 strokes better on day two, they jumped three teams. All but one Tiger bettered their score of day two.

A total of 63 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-72, 7041-yard course, Blackthorn Golf Club. ONU finished seventh overall with a team score of 626 (318-308, +50). Taylor University (Ind.) won the event shooting a 577 (291-286, +1).  Purdue University-Northwest (Ind.) came in second with a score of 595 (303-292, +19), Holy Cross College (Ind.) finished third with a 602 (305-297, +9) and Indiana Wesleyan University came in fourth with a score of 607 (301-306, +31).

For the second straight weekend, two juniors led the way for the Tigers. Justin Bowman (JR/Indianapolis, Ind.) came in tied for 18th with a 153 (80-73, +9). Winkelmann finished tied for 24th with a 155 (76-79, +11). Jake Butterfield (SO/Horton, Mich.) came in tied for 38th with a score of 160 (81-79, +16).  Zack Thorson (SR/Philo, Ill.) (81-80, +17) finished tied for 41st with a 161 along with teammate, Mitch Peterson (SO/Rockford, Ill.) (84-77, +17).

The Tigers will compete next in the University of St. Francis (Ind.) Cougar Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30.
