Mayor Kriseman: How about the Rowdies in the Trop?

Today on 95.3/620 WDAE, St. Pete mayor Rick Kriseman posted a possible solution to the Tropicana Field issue: How about hosting the Tampa Bay Rowdies?

It's almost certain that, eventually, the Rays will leave Tropicana Field. (Hopefully, moving just to Tampa.) So it seems that Kriseman wants to hedge his bets.

Of course, recently, the Tampa Bay Rowdies have been making waves with their plan to fully convert Al Lang Field into a soccer-specific stadium. But even at its best, it's still gonna be awkward, and pretty small compared to facilities currently being built.

Kriseman is claiming that MLS likes the idea of MLS and higher-level soccer at the Trop. (Why not? They sure seem comfortable playing NYCFC at Yankee Stadium.)

For what it's worth, Rowdies owner Bill Edwards said he is not aware of the idea. Furthermore, he said he supports the Rays staying at Tropicana Field, and submitted Al Lang Field as the site in their proposal for eventual MLS expansion.
