[Baseball] Evangels Swept by No. 7 LCU

4.16.10 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University baseball team was unable to get past Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Lubbock Christian University on Friday afternoon falling 5-1 in the opener and 13-2 in five innings in the nightcap at Evangel Field.

The opening game was a pitching dual through four innings with senior right-handed pitcher Thomas Peabody only giving up one hit while LCU pitcher Frank Corolla only gave up three hits.

Adrian Bravo-Carmona dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth with a lead off homer over the centerfield fence.

MACU took a 1-0 lead into the sixth but LCU rallied to score five runs in the frame. With one out, MACU gave up three straight singles. A sacrifice fly scored the game-tying run and a double by Doug Kroll sent two runs home. Ricard Bohlken followed with a two-run bomb over the left field fence to round out the scoring.

The Evangels were unable to get the any offense going in the final two innings, falling 5-2.

Peabody falls to 4-6 on the season. He tossed a complete game allowing five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Corolla improves to 8-1 on the year allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

The Chaps got on the board first in game two. Catcher Dan Neumann led off the third with a solo shot over the center field fence to put LCU in the lead. The Chaps used two more hits and a MACU error to add two more runs in the inning taking a 3-0 lead.

MACU fell behind 9-0 with the Chaps adding six runs in the top of the fourth. Kroll led off the inning with his second home run of the afternoon. Bohlken followed with a homer of his own. The duo hit back-to-back bombs in game one as well. A single by David Cruz plated J.J. Muse who singled earlier in the inning. Joe Staley followed with a three-run home run to round out the scoring for the inning.

MACU got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a lead off homer by Scott Mulhearn. With bases loaded and one out Tim Mahler hit a single to plate James Frederick who singled earlier in the inning. The Evangels ended the inning with the bases loaded.

The Chaps plated four runs in the fifth to complete the 13-2 run-rule.

David Wynn is tagged with the loss in the finale. The senior left-handed pitcher tossed 3.2 innings allowing nine runs, seven earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts. Paul Gonzalez gets the shutout win, tossing a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts.

The Evangels (15-24, 6-16 SAC) will finish their three-game series with the Chaps (31-10, 16-4 SAC) on Saturday, April 17th at 1 p.m.
