2026 Stafford Speedway Driver Preview: Chris Matthews
Chris Matthews, #29 Vernon Chevrolet SK Light
Experience: 12 seasons in Stafford’s SK Light division; 4 seasons in SK Modified® division, 3 seasons in Late Model division
2025 stats: 9th in final SK Light standings; 3 wins, 4 top-5’s, 8 top-10’s, avg. finish 11.4
2026 outlook: The 2025 season at Stafford was a mixed bag for Matthews. Matthews recorded three wins in 2025, which broke a tie with Tyler Chapman to make him the winningest driver in SK Light history with 25 career wins and counting. What made the 2025 season a mixed bag for Matthews was his lack of consistency. Besides his 3 wins, Matthews only recorded one other top-5 finish during the season while he had 3 finishes of 23rd or worse. Matthews’ #29 car is always fast and if he can become more consistent over the entire season, he can very easily be among the championship contenders come the end of the 2026 season.
