F1 TV Coverage - OTA, OTT
We previously had a broadcast thread that was focused on UK coverage. While posts in that thread might occasionally go outside of the UK perspective, in general it was not an all inclusive global broadcast thread. So topics for locations outside of the UK (such as US with ESPN > Netflix) and the ever more popular F1TV streaming service have been somewhat missing from the discussion.
I hope this to be a location for that. It could cover everything from Over the Air to Over the Top (Cable, Sat and Streaming) in all locations. The other thread was locked as it tends to be a bit of an ongoing commentary on the Sky team (do you love or hate Ted and Croft for example) as well as going off the rails on non-broadcast topics. Hopefully we can stay on topic here and be respectful! :)
Anyhow, to kick this off...
I have used F1TV for a year or two here in the US and have enjoyed it. Last year I dabbled in using the "MultiViewer" application. For those that don't know, it is a custom web application that allows you to integrate available streams into a customized experience. For example, F1TV provides not just the main broadcast channel, but also in-car for all cars as well as T&S channels. The base experience with F1TV for years has been for you to be able to pick and choose which channel to watch. But with MultiViewer you can watch multiple at the same time. Like have the main race on and the have smaller "Picture in Picture" views for in-car or T&S.
I think that previously there was the single "F1TV Pro" subscription (There may be a limited experience below Pro, I can't remember). But with Pro, you got the above as well as access to archives and other F1 adjacent series. You could also have multiple streams open at the same time which was a core requirement for MultiViewer to work. But starting this year, they have introduced "F1TV Premium" which I think is trying to provide something similar (if not as mature as) the MultiViewer experience. They also have reduced the number of simultaneous streams for the F1TV Pro subscription. Likely that was done to hobble the MultiViewer users to force/entice them to move to the Premium subscription.
(Admins/Moderators, feel free to merge the two threads. But if you do, please consider adjusting the name to be more inclusive with respect to content and not limit it to the UK scope)
