BROOKLYN, Mich. — The June race weekend at Michigan International Speedway has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date. The schedule in the Irish Hills consisted of an ARCA Menards Series race on June 5, a NASCAR Xfinity Series race on June 6, and the NASCAR Cup Series Firekeepers 400 on June 7. “We want to thank our loyal fans who were set to attend our June race weekend,” Michigan International Speedway president Rick Brenner said in a press release. “The health and safety of our guests, stakeholders, employees and community are of the upmost importance. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenging times and we look forward to racing again soon at Michigan International Speedway.” The move came after NASCAR announced a new schedule Thursday for its upcoming races at Bristol Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Talladega Superspeedway — a slate of 12 Cup Series events in 23 days. All races will continue to be run without fans in attendance. MIS has hosted a Cup Series race every June since the track’s opening in 1969. The first available opening on this year’s Cup Series schedule is June 28, between Talladega on June 21 and Indianapolis on July 5. If the Michigan race is moved to June 28, that would match the latest in the month MIS has hosted. Dale Earnhardt, Sr., won the 1987 race on June 28.
