Brandon Martin Gets First Career Modified Win At Woodhull

(WOODHULL,NY) - After having yet another rainout the week prior, everyone at the Woodhull Raceway on Saturday was happy to see such a turn in the weather. The warm temperature and sunny skies was perfect for racing on KB Graphics and Wraps night.

The Insinger Performance Modifieds kicked off the event with Joe Dgien, Bobby Davis, and Dayton Brewer winning qualifying heats. Joe Dgien and Brandon Martin lead the field to the green. As if he was shot out of a cannon, Joe Dgien grabbed the early race lead pulling away from Brandon Martin and Dayton Brewer along with the rest of the field. First caution of the event would come on lap 13 but on the ensuing restart, the pace stayed the same for the Joe Dgien Trucking number 3x as he once again pulled away from the rest of the field.

Though the difference maker was after the lap 17 caution. With Joe Dgien pulling away on the restart, it looked like he was going to pull away with the victory however some issues overcame the 3x as he would lose the handling a couple times off of turn 2 and turn 4 corners. This would put him in a battle with Brandon Martin and Dayton Brewer. On Lap 20, Dgien became loose again off turn 4 and that is when Martin capitalized. Martin put his Teo Pro Car underneath the Dgien HigFab to take the race lead. Dgien would come back around on lap 21 to take the lead again.

However Dgien developed a tight push on the topside of turns 1 and 2 which would settle the battle for the lead. Martin would get his first career Modified win on KB Graphics and Wraps night over Dayton Brewer and Cory Costa. “It feels good to finally get a win,” Brandon Martin stated in Victory Lane Saturday night. Martin credits his sponsors, crew, family, and friends for helping him get his first Modified win.

In the Woodhull Auto Supply Hobby Stocks AJ Niedermaier and Jeredd Dennis took heat race wins and in their 20 lap feature Brent Williams lead the field to green. For the first half of the race, it looked like Brent Williams was going to get a feature win but Jeredd Dennis came up through from the back of the field bringing along AJ Niedermair as well. Working his way from 12th, it would only take 10 laps for the veteran driver to take the top groove all the way to Victory Lane. Jeredd gets his 5th win of the year over Les Smith and Scott Brown.

The Joe Willcox Performance Automatic Street Stocks had a solid field of 17 cars entered in the event. Kurt Stebbins and Brett Marlatt took home heat race wins. The feature event kicked off with Mick Seeley and Dennis French leading the way. However it didn’t take much time for Mike Williams to make his way from the fourth starting spot to take the top spot. In just 3 laps, the RLB Trucking 19 would take the lead away from Mick Seeley. Working his way from 11th, Kurt Stebbins decided to put his car on the cushion and within a few short laps he was knocking on the door of the top 3. Though this run from Stebbins seemed to have dried up as quickly as it came around. Stebbins would soon find himself looking to go back on the offensive on the bottom groove. Evading runs from Dan Gardner, Mike Williams continued to lead the field. However it would be Brett Marlatt to put the move on Williams. Marlatt on the last lap, put his RLB Trucking 99 car on the middle groove and make a last lap pass on Williams to take the win. Williams would settle for 2nd and Dan Gardner would finish 3rd.

It looked like we would be getting a new, first time winner in the NAPA Crate Sportsman feature as Isabel Barron ran a smooth straight line to lead the field. Brayden Bills challenged Barron for the lead on countless occasions but it would be Jake Dgien using the entire race group to pass competitors. Working his way from 10th, Dgien proved to be the car to beat as he would take the lead in the closing laps and pull way from the rest of the field to get his second win of 2019, Isabel Barron finished 2nd and AJay Potrzebowski Jr. would settle for third.

The Daugherty Auto Sales & Service Warriors proved to be a good race as Jacob Tubbs, coming from 8th starting spot, took the lead from both Josh Isaman and Dylon Morseman after they had a tight run through turns 3 and 4. Using the bottom groove, Tubbs was able to slide by and take the lead near the half way mark of the feature event. Tubbs would go on to win over Dylon Morseman and Brook McClain.

The Cummings Trucking RUSH Late Models saw 12 cars on Saturday. In their 20 lap feature event, Kurt Stebbins would not be denied. Early in the event, it looked like the defending track champion Steve LeBarron would get the win. Ripping the cushion, the TroopsCreek Auto Parts number 29 took the race lead on lap 9 but would relinquish it just a couple of laps later after hopping the cushion and going off the track. Giving Horton back the lead, Horton tried to hold off Stebbins however it was to no avail as Stebbins would take win making a move on lap 12. Horton would finish 2nd and LeBarron 3rd.

For the Daugherty Auto Sales & Service Mini Stocks feature event, Ray Hyer proved for the first time in 2019 that he is the car to beat. Putting his car on the top side, Hyer was able to get past Jason Ketrow on lap 15 to take the race lead on the top. Hyer would put his car on the top side and be able to maneuver past the likes of Josh Webster and Jason Ketrow.

The Johnsons Auto Supply Front Wheel Drives also turned out to be a good race especially for Scott Lehman Jr. Lehman started on the outside of Nick Brown and would take the race lead quickly off of turn 2. It would only take a handful of laps for Ryan Austin to also make his way through the field into the runner up position. Austin would pressure Lehman for the race lead up until a mechanical failure within the closing laps would end Austin’s run. Scott Lehman Jr goes on to get his first win of the year on the highbanks over Nick Brown and Codie Baker.
