Chief Steward’s Report – Summer 2018
By Jack Marr I’m the new kid on the block and a stranger to many of you, so let me take a moment to introduce myself. While I am new to the world of CVAR I have a bit over 50 years of racing behind me as a worker, driver, car builder and Steward mostly with SCCA. My basic philosophy (stolen from Bill Johnson) is “safe, fair, fun”. If we do the first two, the third will follow along. I am always open to comments, suggestions or rational argument so feel free to find me and tell me what’s on your mind. With four CVAR races now under my belt, I must admit that I am not doing well in the weather department; I have brought cold and wet on at least one day of the first events and blazing hot for MSR-C. I can only hope I will get better with time! Hallett was a lot of fun with about 40 FVs taking the green for the feature race. Good racing throughout the field. The other groups also put on a good show. Did pretty good on Friday’s weather but I fumbled the ball the next two days. Eagles Canyon was the opposite, Friday was soaking wet but things came together for the weekend. Great racing in all groups. We did have a group 7 car do a few barrel rolls; the car is pretty much used up but the only damage to the driver will be cured by a hot soak in the tub. It looks like the front spindle broke and it had been cracked for some time. Please, next time you have the car apart get the critical pieces examined; magnaflux or dye penetrant kits are cheap insurance. MSR Cresson had a fairly light turn out, those who did come saw some spectacular racing; the two 911s that wouldn’t get the other one get away was a real show. The NuArt Can Am cars looked and sounded great when they ran, they are still sorting out new car bugs but they should be better next time we see them. Our T&S guru and Registrar, Merl Hansen, took ill on Friday and had to return to Houston, at last report he is recovering well. In Merl’s absence Liz Nuse and Jean Womble filled in and did a great job. Thanks, Ladies, for stepping up and keeping things going! As I said I am new to CVAR but I am enjoying renewing old acquaintances and making many new friends. I look forward to meeting those of you I don’t know yet. See you at the next one!
