[Golf] St. Andrews names Smith as New Golf Coach

0

LAURINBURG, NC- St. Andrews University Director of Athletics Glenn Batten has announced the appointment of Evan Smith as the new head Men's & Women's Golf Coach.

"The men's golf program has been very competitive through the years and I am confident that Evan will be able to continue that tradition.  His experience as a coach and mentor and knowledge of the game will serve our program well.  He understands our commitment to the NAIA and character-driven intercollegiate athletics and the balance between academic excellence and competitive play," Batten said.

"I am very excited for this new opportunity," said Smith.  "As someone who has played against St. Andrews as a player and coach at Point University (a fellow member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference). I can tell you St. Andrews has always been a competitor on the golf course. I am honored to now get the opportunity to continue the winning trend."

"I am very grateful for Mr. Batten giving me my dream job," continued Smith. "I got into coaching to help young adults achieve what they once thought was impossible on and off the golf course. I am not about winning championships, I am about having a winning attitude that will result in championships on and off the golf course.

I want to also thank former St. Andrews coach, William Carter for the great work he did in building the program. I am confident I can pick up where he left off and continue the program's legacy."

Smith comes to SAU after serving as the assistant men's golf coach at Point University (Ga.) for two seasons. That team won back-to-back AAC Team Championships.  Along with winning those conference titles, he coached the team to NAIA National Championship appearances in 2017 and 2018.

While at Point, Smith also served as the Director of the Point University Golf Club where he oversaw all operations at the golf course and event center.

During his playing career, Smith played three seasons at Point and qualified for NJCAA Nationals in 2013 at USC-Lancaster.

Smith, a native of Atlanta, GA, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management from Point University in 2016.
