Arkansas 2023 cross country schedule

FAYETTEVILLE – Cross country season begins in less than a month for Arkansas as the first meet will be held on September 1 at the Cowboy Preview hosted by Oklahoma State.

The Razorback men return 10 athletes from last year’s squad with seven having competed in the SEC Championships last fall. Patrick Kiprop, who placed fifth in the conference meet, leads the Arkansas squad, which includes Elias Schreml and Myles Richter, who finished 10th and 12th a year ago.

Other Razorbacks who raced in the conference meet last fall include Ben Shearer, Josh Shearer, Jack Williams, and Reuben Reina. Ben Shearer earned SEC Freshman Runner of the Year honors last season.

Lexington Hilton will contest his first cross country season with the Razorbacks after making his debut with Arkansas during the 2023 indoor season.

The Chile Pepper Festival held on September 29 will have the Razorbacks competing on its home course at Agri Park. Then the Pre-Nationals Invitational will be hosted by Virginia in Charlottesville on October 27 as teams get a preview of the NCAA Championship course being held at Panorama Farms.

Post season meets begin with the SEC Championships hosted by South Carolina on October 27 in Columbia, South Carolina. Arkansas then serves as host of the NCAA South Central Regional at Agri Park on November 10.

The 2023 NCAA Championships, with a field of 31 teams, will be held at Panorama Farms on November 18.

In 2022, the Razorbacks advanced to the national championship field for the 11th consecutive year among the 48 appearances Arkansas has made in the past 49 years. Overall, the Razorbacks have advanced to the NCAA Championships in cross country 52 times since its first appearance in 1957.

Kiprop won the South Central Region title a year ago in College Station, Texas, and earned All-America honors when he placed 24th in the NCAA Championships on the challenging course at Oklahoma State. Returning Razorbacks who earned All-Region honors last season include Schreml, who placed third, and Richter, who finished 16th.

Hilton, who previously competed at Arkansas State, finished eighth in the 2021 South Central Region meet after placing second in the Sun Belt conference meet that season.
