Razorback Brew 1/10: Adapting Roads

How do you condense 100 years into one story? It’s a task not for the faint of heart. Surely some events will be left on the cutting room floor, but that doesn’t make them any less memorable.

Clay Henry reached deep into his memory banks for HogsPlus.com this week and wrote about some of his favorite Arkansas basketball moments, trivial or not, over the past century.

> SHOW YOUR STRIPES. The No. 15 Arkansas men’s basketball team are back inside Bud Walton Arena tomorrow night with some added flair. The Hogs will host No. 4 Alabama while wearing new uniforms featuring the school’s logo from the 1980s. Check out Coach Muss’ tweet for a sneak peak at the new threads debuting tomorrow night.

> OFF THE MEND, ON A ROLL. Arkansas women’s golf signee Maria Jose Marin took home a huge win at the Mexican International Amateur Championship over the weekend. With a 2-under 286, she won by four strokes in her first event back from injury after coming off an injury. An awesome job by a future Razorback!

> EARLY HOG BEATS THE RUSH. It’s already time to start looking ahead to the 2023 Razorback Football season. Season ticket and Razorback Foundation pledge renewal information is being sent to season ticket holders this week. The Early Hog Deadline is Friday, January 13, and the final renewal deadline is March 1.

Let’s talk about the Early Hog Incentive. All season ticket holders who renew their tickets and, if applicable, and pay their 2023 annual fund donation (or set up a payment plan) by Friday will have no transaction fees (savings of up to $40), receive 10 bonus priority points ($1,000 donation value) and have a chance to win 2 pregame sideline passes to a 2023 football game (exact game TBD).

> PAVING HISTORY. Former Razorback and current Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow paved the way for history on Sunday. The Pro Bowler helped his team cap off an impressive 9-8 season with a gutsy 20-16 victory over the Green Bay Packers to keep their division rivals out of the NFL playoffs.

But that’s not all. Ragnow has been instrumental in helping running back Jamaal Williams put together a career year. Williams rushed for touchdowns No. 16 and 17 vs. Green Bay behind Ragnow’s blocking and now holds the Lions’ single season record once held by Hall of Famer Barry Sanders.

> ADAPTING ROADS. It was an up-and-down week for Arkansas men’s basketball. After defeating Missouri with an impressive second-half comeback, the Hogs had an off night on offense against Auburn on the road. As head coach Eric Musselman said in his weekly chat with Chuck Barrett, this is not the same team that went to Maui over a month ago.

Hear Muss talk about the importance of consistent defense, how important Makhi Mitchell‘s been in that regard, and much more in this week’s Courtside with Eric Musselman.

On your marks. As the Arkansas track teams get their indoor seasons underway this week, Q and Z catch up with women’s coach Lance Harter. We’ll also tell you what you need to know about Thursday’s 100 Seasons of Arkansas Basketball documentary premiere in today’s episode.
