What is Your Why by Dana Forbes, CEO
It is that time of the year again…time to remind ourselves of something.
There is a saying in sales, “people don’t buy what you sell, but why you sell it.”
I can remember when I started teaching skiing and the day I took my PSIA Level 1, but there are days, especially the rough ones, where I forget why I teach skiing and why I love PSIA-AASI.
I will assume that like me, you can all remember when you started teaching and maybe even how you felt when you passed your Level 1. You had a reason to do so, and I ask because no different than the reasoning above, you may need a reminder. It’s mid-February, and we are all a little crispy.
So ask yourself right now, “Why did I start teaching?” Then ask, “Why did I join PSIA-AASI?” After you answer that, I want you to imagine your life in five years if you continue with this journey: how it will look, where will you be? Then, imagine yourself in five years if you leave this profession, if you stop growing and learning from this organization.
What did you envision when you stayed versus when you left? How did that make you feel?
From time to time our motivation fades and we forget our why. In those moments, jog your memory and remind yourself why you started and all that you have learned about this sport. I can guarantee it will instantly motivate you and make any February feel like the shortest month of the year!
Oh wait…it is!
