An “air punch” thrown by Akron Zips wing Evan Mahaffey and UA basketball’s response to his subsequent ejection stole the show during an eventful night at Rhodes Arena. Before Akron defeated UMass 99-92 on Feb. 13, UA honored Zips legend Isaiah “Big Dog” Johnson by unveiling his jersey number — 23 — in the rafters. During the game, Akron welcomed former Zips coach Bob Huggins back to campus with a scoreboard tribute and showed him sitting in the stands. Huggins also visited the team during shootaround earlier in the day.
