Basketball fans turn out for Coppin State’s loss to No. 2 South Carolina in Baltimore

Denikwa James had more than the obvious reasons to attend Sunday afternoon’s women’s basketball game between No. 2 South Carolina and Coppin State. When she was Denikwa Shelby and a freshman on the Morgan State team, the Bears trekked to Charlottesville, Virginia, to face Virginia and a superstar point guard named Dawn Staley. The Cavaliers and Staley won easily, 96-52, on Jan. 11, 1990.
