The Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) recently announced its 2025 season awards for boys soccer and 10 Journal-area players were recognized as All-State selections. Maine West’s Bryan Romero (Sr., F) is the first Warriors soccer player to earn All-State honors since 2018, when Jason Ybarra was selected. Maine West’s only other All-State selection in the last 17 seasons was Nelson Herrera, the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer, in 2012 and 2013. Niles West’s Zulfo Velic (Sr., GK) is the first All-State player for the Wolves in five years, since Faris Rahic was selected in 2020.
