Ronda Rousey: Mike Tyson’s $20M Comeback Ignites UFC Return Speculation
Ronda Rousey maintains secrecy amidst rumors of a potential return to mixed martial arts (MMA). The former UFC bantamweight champion has not entered the octagon since December 2016, when she suffered a knockout loss in 48 seconds to Amanda Nunes. Rousey seemingly retired from the sport for good, stating that her premature departure was due to a long history of concussion issues. However, just eighteen months later, the 38-year-old athlete is once again linked to a potential comeback fight, as she appears to have rediscovered her love for MMA and undergone an impressive physical transformation.
Mike Tyson`s Comeback Inspired Ronda Rousey
Not long ago, Ronda Rousey wanted nothing to do with the sport that brought her fame. Thoughts of resuming her career were far from her mind, but then Mike Tyson made a sensational return. The 59-year-old boxer, absent for almost two decades, stepped back into the ring to fight Jake Paul in November 2024. “Iron Mike,” though he lost by decision, left the fight a winner, reportedly earning $20 million for his first professional bout since 2005. The hugely successful Paul vs Tyson event broke boxing viewership records and left “Rowdy” feeling inspired.
“Mike Tyson coming back and having the biggest fight last year just proves that, in my opinion, no one ever truly finishes their career,” Rousey stated in an interview with The Breakfast Club. “With Mike Tyson, you can never say never now. Holy s—! He got $20 million. Baddest man on the planet. 108 million views. Say what you want, but that`s the most-watched fight of all time, and he was almost 60. That`s how much his legacy means and his name means. For me personally, it was very inspiring to see him do that.”
Dana White Comments on Ronda Rousey`s Potential Comeback
UFC CEO Dana White has reacted to rumors of Ronda Rousey`s possible return to the promotion. White revealed he had recently met with Rousey but declined to elaborate on the details of her potential comeback.
“Yes, she and I are still very close, and we talk, I would say probably once every three months or so,” White said earlier this month. “She was in Vegas recently and came by the office, but I don`t know her plans. I think she`s just training again. She just had two babies, and she`s in a completely different stage of her life.”
“But I will say this: she just had another baby, and she`s in great shape right now; she`s incredibly ripped, like she used to be, so I don`t know.”
