Dustin Poirier’s recent social media activity has caught the attention of Nate Diaz, the fighter he publicly targeted.

Poirier, who fought his last UFC bout at UFC 318 earlier this year, recently admitted he is still processing his retirement from the sport.

He concluded his illustrious career by competing before his supportive home crowd in Louisiana.

However, Poirier recently hinted at a specific fight that could lure him out of retirement, a suggestion that has now garnered a direct response.

Nate Diaz Asserts Dustin Poirier Is `Not Permitted` to Face Him in Zuffa Boxing

On September 30, Dustin Poirier declared that a 12-round boxing match against Nate Diaz is the sole reason he would consider returning to competition at this stage of his career.

The two fighters were initially slated to clash as the co-main event at UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden.

The cancellation of that fight sparked a rivalry, fueled by conflicting narratives about its demise.

This animosity persists, with Diaz having previously commented on Poirier`s retirement ahead of UFC 318.

Diaz, a former UFC star, evidently noticed Poirier`s proposition for a Zuffa Boxing showdown and issued a social media response.

Diaz, who has remained active in boxing since leaving the UFC in 2022, asserted that such a fight would not be an option for `The Diamond`.

He wrote, “I’d beat your a– but you’re not allowed. PS you’re checked out already.”

Dustin Poirier Cites Unfulfilled Diaz Fight as a Major Career Regret

While Dustin Poirier cherishes many career highlights and has faced numerous top opponents, the bout against Nate Diaz stands out as a significant missed opportunity.

`The Diamond` had frequently mentioned Diaz prior to his retirement, expressing regret that the fight never materialized.

In 2018, after Diaz accused him of withdrawing from their UFC 230 encounter, Poirier clarified that his withdrawal was due to being informed the fight with Diaz was off, not a personal decision to back out.

Poirier, who would have pushed through injury for the highly anticipated clash, evidently still seeks to resolve this long-standing score.
