Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Respectful Exchange with Sergio Pettis Post-KO
Despite needing to attend to his fighter following a dramatic knockout in Dubai, Khabib Nurmagomedov found time to convey a message to his long-time acquaintance, Anthony Pettis.
At the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, Sergio Pettis, brother of the former UFC featherweight champion, secured a spectacular spinning backfist knockout against Nurmagomedov’s protégé, Magomed Magomedov, after trailing in the fight.
As the legendary lightweight exited the octagon to care for his downed fighter, he paused for a brief exchange with Sergio Pettis and also spoke with coach Duke Roufus, a familiar face from his own fighting days.

Following two rounds where Magomed Magomedov applied significant pressure and nearly secured several submissions, Sergio Pettis landed a devastating spinning backfist that immediately rendered the Russian unconscious. Medical staff and coach Khabib Nurmagomedov quickly attended to the fallen fighter.
Though Magomedov eventually left the cage with assistance, Nurmagomedov took a moment before departing to speak with Pettis and Duke Roufus, seizing the opportunity to send a message to Sergio`s well-known older brother, Anthony Pettis.
“He simply told me, ‘Good job, man. Excellent work in the fight, and please extend my greetings to your brother.’ Khabib is truly a great individual and an exceptional athlete; it’s unusual to see him not actively cornering.
I’m a huge admirer of his, so I was a bit star-struck. However, I knew I had to perform and uphold the Pettis family name.”
