Sage Northcutt Completes Dramatic Career Change Two Years After Last MMA Fight
Sage Northcutt, once widely regarded as the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) next major sensation, has unexpectedly pivoted his career path. The 29-year-old began his mixed martial arts journey with an impressive streak of five consecutive victories, quickly catching the eye of UFC president Dana White and securing a contract.
Affectionately known as ‘Super,’ Northcutt rapidly became a fan favorite, admired for his appealing looks, engaging personality, and dynamic fighting approach. However, his professional trajectory seemed to falter after his departure from the UFC, despite having compiled a solid 6-2 record during his time in the Octagon.
Northcutt`s Significant Career Transition
Following his stint with the UFC, Sage Northcutt signed with ONE Championship, making his debut for the promotion in May 2019. This initial appearance, however, concluded prematurely and disastrously; he was brutally knocked out by Cosmo Alexandre within just 30 seconds at ONE: Enter the Dragon.
This crushing defeat led to Northcutt taking a four-year break from MMA before making his highly anticipated comeback in May 2023. His return at ONE Fight Night 10 saw him secure a swift submission victory in only 39 seconds. Despite this win, he has not competed since, and it appears his enthusiasm for continuing his MMA career has diminished over the past two years.
On Wednesday, an announcement confirmed Northcutt’s new professional undertaking: he has accepted a position as a real estate agent. It remains uncertain whether this move signifies a definitive end to his MMA career or if he still harbors intentions of returning to competitive fighting in 2026.
Following Al Iaquinta’s Footsteps in Real Estate
Sage Northcutt is not the first mixed martial artist to transition into the real estate sector. Al Iaquinta, a prominent UFC fighter, famously balanced selling properties with his fighting career. His UFC tenure saw him compete against high-profile opponents including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Jorge Masvidal, Dan Hooker, and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
‘Raging’ Iaquinta recently put an end to rumors of an MMA comeback, asserting his full commitment to his career in real estate. During a conversation with Chris De Santiago, Iaquinta articulated his deep involvement and success in his new field:
“I’m so busy in real estate and doing so well. I’ve got such a great team there with the Serra-Longo guys. I go into the gym, I help out a little bit, I train, keep my juices flowing, keep my sanity in the gym… But then I’ve got the other side, the business side, which is just growing leaps and bounds every day. Being able to dedicate myself to the real estate, the way I was dedicated to fighting—there’s not a broker [or] agent on Long Island or in the country that could hang with me. I really, truly believe that.”
