Jorge Masvidal Seeks UFC Return to Challenge Longtime Rival at White House Event

Former UFC sensation Jorge `Gamebred` Masvidal has expressed a strong desire to rejoin the Ultimate Fighting Championship and participate in a highly anticipated upcoming event.

Masvidal, a prominent welterweight, departed the UFC in 2023 following a series of four consecutive defeats.

Since his departure, `Gamebred` ventured into professional boxing, where he faced Nate Diaz last July in a rematch of their iconic 2019 BMF title bout, this time under boxing rules.

Despite losing the boxing match to the `Stockton Brawler,` Masvidal has now publicly stated his interest in returning to the UFC to settle a score with a long-standing adversary.

Masvidal Petitions for UFC Return to Confront Old Foe

Throughout his career in the leading mixed martial arts organization, the Miami native engaged in several high-profile rivalries. His spectacular knockout victory over Ben Askren, one of the most memorable in the sport`s history, significantly boosted his stardom.

In 2019, a heated rivalry ignited between Masvidal and then-welterweight contender Leon Edwards after Masvidal delivered a `three-piece and a soda` sucker punch to the British fighter backstage at UFC London.

Despite widespread anticipation that their altercation would inevitably lead to a cage fight, the two never met inside the Octagon, as Masvidal withdrew from their planned 2021 bout.

However, with the recent announcement that the UFC plans to host an event at the White House in 2026, Masvidal has renewed his interest in a UFC comeback.

“Leon, if you’re watching this, I’ll beat the f*** out of you at the White House… just like America kicked England’s ass when they were trying to take over our s***, I’m gonna send you back the same way,” Masvidal said during a recent podcast.

He continued, “On 4th of July, America’s birthday, let them make a mistake and send you to represent England, I will crash that party… I’ll get in shape for you Leon, don’t worry.”

Is an Edwards vs. Masvidal Showdown at the White House Event Possible?

Given the years-long animosity between them, it would be a missed opportunity if a fight between Masvidal and Edwards never materializes.

Currently, Edwards, also known as `Rocky,` is slated to face Carlos Prates at UFC 322 later this year. A victory against the Brazilian would likely propel him back into title contention.

Nevertheless, should Prates emerge victorious, a Masvidal-Edwards bout, rich with a compelling backstory, could serve as an exciting addition to the undercard of the historic White House event.
