Kamaru Usman Backs Dana White on Jon Jones’ Reliability for White House UFC Event
UFC sensation Kamaru Usman has publicly aligned himself with Dana White`s position regarding Jon Jones.
The highly anticipated 2026 UFC event at the White House continues to generate buzz, with numerous top fighters vying for a coveted spot in the national spectacle.
Among those expressing strong interest in competing in Washington D.C. is Jon Jones, the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion. Although he had retired last summer, the announcement of the White House event immediately prompted Jones to declare his comeback.
However, the controversial Rochester native does not seem to be a favored choice for the UFC. White publicly dismissed Jones` appeals, citing the perennial GOAT contender`s past inconsistencies and lack of dependability.
Kamaru Usman Supports Dana White`s Position on Jon Jones` White House Ambitions
The UFC CEO`s decision has polarized many fans and fighters. While significant support exists for White`s stance, Henry Cejudo anticipates that White will eventually concede to Jones` demands.
Should that not materialize, Kamaru Usman, the former welterweight king and co-host of the Pound 4 Pound podcast with the ex-two-division champion, believes Jones would be solely responsible.
“You have Jon Jones,” Usman stated, referencing potential White House participants. “He wants to return and compete. Frankly, I`d be happy for Jon Jones. However, Jon, you cannot manipulate the system as he has done and still expect Dana White to maintain trust in you and allow your participation in such an event. You simply cannot treat the sport in that manner.”
Jones reportedly had an agreement to unify the UFC heavyweight titles against Tom Aspinall this year but abruptly withdrew. This appears to be the most recent event contributing to White`s eroded trust in the 38-year-old fighter.
Conor McGregor Calls for Dana White to Reconsider Jon Jones` Participation
Interestingly, Conor McGregor, a prominent figure widely tipped to headline the celebratory card over Jones, expresses a differing opinion from the UFC boss.
Conor McGregor aims for the UFC White House event as his comeback fight after a four-year hiatus. While it appears improbable for both McGregor and `Bones` to feature on the same card, McGregor, speaking with Seconds Out, suggested White should permit Jones to compete.
During the short interview, the Irishman also asserted that he was directly negotiating with President Donald Trump’s administration, bypassing the UFC.
“I am not negotiating with the UFC for myself for this fight as is customary,” McGregor stated. “Instead, I am negotiating with the United States of America on behalf of Ireland for this particular bout.”
He added, “So it`s a unique situation. But Trump and his administration have provided full support and backing, and I`m eager to deliver a spectacular performance.”
